Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Just want to share with you guys a project I am working on at NBBJ.  It is a conceptual design tool and is in the early stages of exploration in upcoming projects.  See link to video (with sound)

Architecture: Realtime Physics for Space Planning
http://vimeo.com/15563685

"This is a preview of a parametric conceptual design tool for architectural practice that I have been developing at NBBJ. I wanted to develop a
system that allows designers to quickly organize and understand complex
architectural programmes in three dimensions.

It is an advancement of the traditional bubble diagram; it solves
adjacency requirements automatically and suggests planimetric and
sectional relationships. The resulting diagrams are not formal
solutions; they are simply organizational diagrams with solved
adjacencies and accurate required areas. The diagrams are raw
materials, meant to be manipulated sculpturally, or even squeezed into a
formal container.

Technical Information
The tool was created in the Grasshopper plug-in for Rhino. Custom components, written in VB.NET,
read programme data directly from Excel into Grasshopper. The tool
uses the Kangaroo engine for realtime spring dynamics simulation."

I would love to see some advanced tree management in gHowl. That would be a cool addition.

Actually, I would love to see gHowl, period. Any way for me to get my grubby little mitts on it?

Thanks,
Marc
You can email us at gHowlComponents[at]gmail.com Right now the spreadsheet implementation is very limited, and it will probably be a few weeks till we can get the new version out. Just so you know ;)

hey Marc, great stuff. Curious if you are sharing this yet? IF not would you have any resources I you could point me towards, maybe some helping in your research?

Thanks

Thanks Mark, Very interesting and promising

i am doing a research in this field and i was looking for information about it

That's great!

Hope to see this tool soon!)

hello,

i just found your video, so  amazing! it would be great to play around with it. is there any possiblity to get this definition? im working on something like this for 2 months but get stuck...

one year ago you wrote, that you maybe publish you definition, after testing it...

it would be so great if i could have a look!!!

so if there is a way: bea.franko@googlemail.com

thank you!

kiss bea

Fantastic potential in this demonstration. Is there any chance you would share the definition, in full or part?

I saw a presentation by Jacob Simons about a rapid prototyping lab at NBBJ--were you involved?  He presented some grasshopper definitions for planning complex medical facilities.  I am taking some steps in this direction.  If you are not planning to share the work, I'll post some follow-up questions.

We're not sharing the tool yet... but feel free to ask questions.  There are some questions answered on the vimeo page:

Great stuff! I had lost this video and have been looking for it for a long time! Thanks for digging thisup Really inspiring work..

Hi Marc,

I've been interested in this approach to space making for a while. The time has come where I am going to try and implement a similar approach in to my current MArch Studio. Have you decided to share the tool yet? I would not know where to start and it would be a huge help!

Kind regards

Marc

Hello Marc,

Great stuff ! BUT  I have a doubt ? Based on what logic these spheres are associated with each others ? I mean are they associated with each other on basis of proximity length or any specific interrelation like travel time?

Thanks
