Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Dear GH Innovators,

Over the last few months there have been many interesting developments in the interoperability between GH and Revit.  Several developers including Hiroshi Jacobs (Chameleon), Nathan Miller (Revit API),Tim Meador (component set), and John Mirtschin (IFC/Geometry Gym) have set out to marry the functionality of these softwares.

Now, I am no one to necessarily be talking about making redundant functionality in GH.  The set of components I contribute to overlap in functionality with other add-ons and experiments out there.  I was wondering if there is any room here for an epic collaboration between all of these talented people to make an amazing tool to get Revit / Vasari + GH to converse nicely?  While I definitely love that many people find their way to solve this connection, I feel it would be a huge benefit to condense this knowledge into a comprehensive set off tools.

Just my $0.02.**

agreed, they are all great but the overlap gets confusing to keep track of. If I think mesh I think weaverbird, if i think physics I think kangaroo, if I think structure I think geometry gym, If I think site analysis I think geco ect ect, So if I think Revit I think __________.

Limited response thus far to what is an interesting observation.

From my point of view, certainly I am focused on Grasshopper to Revit workflows, but the intent of the tools I am developing is much broader than this.  IFC (Industry Foundation Class) as an open BIM format permits users with the choice of other software they work with.  From Grasshopper you can choice to use the model data in Digital Project, Archicad, Microstation, Tekla and beyond.  http://buildingsmart-tech.org/implementation/implementations

But there is much scope for improvements in the implementation of model importing/exporting in all software.  This is also why I decided to develop a Revit Addon (I can reuse 80 to 90% of my existing c# code) to import the data within this environment.  But again this enabling workflows from all the software above plus Rhino/Grasshopper into Revit.

Certainly I think the work of the others is impressive and in areas I haven't really broached yet.  But given demand for these aspects I will certainly be looking at it.

Look forward to hearing other thoughts and observations.
