Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hi all,

Just posted minor update of PT-GH (download...)

New in this release:

- Removed distance and length defaults from curve and grid components.  The default used to be "1.0" in most cases and this can make Grasshopper hang if document is set to small units.

- Updated the image of many of the icons and make it a little more consistent to PanelingTools plugin toolbars.

Note:

To run this update, you need Rhino 5.0 Beta of March 14, 2012 and PanelingTools Plugin of March 20, 2012.

Enjoy!

*Rhino 5.0 Beta of March 14

version 5.1.2012.314

It's like writing checks in January :)

Corrected... Thanks!

Another minor release just posted (March 22 B) fixing a bug in ptCellulate component.

I will post a tutorial soon that uses that latest release.

Thank you!

First off, I am excited to see paneling tools in GH.

I installed the gha file in the users/appdata/roaming/grasshopper/library folder this morning.  In GH the PT components gave an error saying they could not find the panelingtoolsdotnet.dll

I replaced it with the "B" version and now the assembly does not want to load at all.

The paneling tool commands are working fine in Rhino and the three files (rhp 2 dlls) are in the rhino 5 plugins folder.  I am running 64 bit 5.0

Any special install instructions for the gha file?

update...the assembly wasn't loading because I forgot to go back and unblocked the file after replacing it with the new version. So my issue is still that the assembly can't find the panelingtoolsdotnet.dll file.  That file is currently in C:\Program Files\Rhinoceros 5.0 WIP (64-bit)\Plug-ins.  Are there other places I can put it so the gha file can find it?

Hi Walter,

Please try the following:

- Delete any PanelingTools* files from the plugin folder under Rhinoceros 5.0

- Download the latest PT (March 22 B)

- Save it to plugin folder under Rhinoceros 5.0

- Open new session of Rhino 5.0

- Use Plugin Manager to load the newly downloaded PanelingTools.rhp (make sure "Enables" is checked in the PluginManager for PanelingTools).

- Now open Grasshopper.

You should see PanelingTools tab and be able to drag components, open examples, etc.

Let me know how that goes.

I continued to have the same issue after the reinstall, but I got it working by putting a copy of the dll in the libraries folder with the gh assembly.

On another note, I noticed a paneling SDK in the download.  Does this integrate into Rhinoscript or dotnet plugins?  Are the paneling tool functions accessible in visual studio by referencing one of those dlls?

It is great to see this in GH, thanks!

Hi Walter,

You must have another copy of the PanelingToolsDotNet.dd and/or PT_SDK.dll somewhere else that Grasshopper is looking for.  It usually looks in the same directory where PanelingTools.rhp is placed.

Absolutely.  You can reference PT functions using the dll and scripting such as Python. I'll post an example soon to show how that is done.

Rajaa,

I'm having the same issue as Walter, but his solution doesn't seem to work on my system.  I have reinstalled the latest versions twice, made sure there aren't any other copies of PanelingToolsDotNet.dd or PT_SDK.dll anywhere else on my system, and unblocked the PTComponentLibray.

PT works perfectly in the rhino environment and all of the components load into GH, but once inputs are hooked up to the PT GH component, the component throws an error.  I have attached a screen shot.  If there is any other information you need to help me work through this issue, please let me know.

I'm looking forward to seeing what PT and GH can do together!

David,

If you go to PluginManager and see the properties of PanelingTools plugin, is the path pointing to the same folder you have all you other dlls?

Also, make sure you have the latest Rhino 5.0 Beta.

I hope that solves it.

Rajaa,

Yes, the path is pointing to the same folder as the dlls.  I don't know why this would make a difference, but that folder is a sub-directory of the Plug-ins folder (Rhinoceros 5.0 WIP (64-bit)\Plug-ins\PanelingTools).

I also tried to tried to unblock PanelingTools.rhp and the dlls and that didn't make a difference either.

I'm running Rhino Version 5.0  (5.1.2012.321, 3/21/2012).

Thanks,

david

David try the following:

-Open new session of Rhino

- Go to PluginManager, then unckeck the box next to PanelingTools plugin in the plugin list (this will force PT not to load next time you open Rhino).

- Make sure all 3 PT files (rhp + dlls) are in the sub folder together (I have it set up the same on my computer).

- Open new session of Rhino

- Go to Plugin manager to load PanelingTools.rhp and mark the check box now (so you get it load next time).

- Open GH.

Let me know if this works for you now.

-Rajaa
