Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

hey, i'm defining lofted surfaces that look like intestines around curves, and control-point editing the curves to entangle the intestines (grasshopper 0.6.0019)

the red preview shading of grasshopper is getting annoying...an object's shading is visible even if (spatially) it should be blocked by another object

i'm twisting them around each other and around other stuff, so i have to see the intersections and the depths...is there a setting that can be changed for this?  or is this a wish-list item for the next version?

also, hi everyone!
Gabgiel,

I don't know if this helps or not but you can use a custom shader that changes the color of the preview, a technique I used here. I'm not exactly sure what you're trying to accomplish but it might help to color each object a different shade to be able to tell what it is. Let me know if this helps or not.

the shader object can just change around the look of the surface...but all surfaces created by grasshopper in preview mode don't obey distance-based rules, i.e. they're always visible even if they should be blocked by another object closer to the camera.

i guess it's impossible to change in this version; wishlist item
Yeah, I have this as well.... Actually It has been like that for many versions... It can be disturbing when working with both Rhino and grasshopper opjects that GH objects are allways displayed on top.
Yeah I know. At first I wanted to make it absolutely obvious which geometry in the viewport was Grasshopper and which was Rhino. You can imagine how annoying it would be if half the shapes you see are unresponsive but you can't tell which.

Anyway, the current solution isn't really a solution in that it generates even bigger problems under other circumstances.

I'll at least allow you to override the default colours and materials, and we'll figure out some way to override individual components and maybe even individual shapes inside a component.
