Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

In cases when Grasshopper is used to create stuff meant to be CNC cut in sheet material, I think it would make sense to generate lightweight extrusion objects (introduced in Rhino V5 WIP) instead of polysurfaces.

Is there any plan to create a specific "Extrusion" tool in GH ?

Is there a workaround for the lack of support at present ?

Cheers,

Olivier,

Here's an idea of how you might do it with components.  You could get more flexibility by bringing control of the curve and the section shape into GH.

Hi Olivier -

No, there is no support for these in GH at the moment. They are exposed in the SDK, so if you got clever you might be able to script a way to add extrusions.

While Grasshopper needs to run on both Rhino4 and Rhino5, Extrusions cannot be added as a basic data type. If you're running in Rhino5, you can use the SDK functions for Extrusion Objects, but those scripts either won't work or won't do anything when you try and run them on Rhino4.

Rhino 4 ?

Who needs Rhino 4 ?

I'm not sure we can do anything with SDK right now since he is on house arrest.

Err... Oh, no, that's DSK !

:)
