"Hi Alex, Well, if it's the only reliable solution, we can go for a file despite the drawbacks. Thanks for the suggestion, I'll look into it. Cheers,"

"Hi David, There can be no "manual" steps because the user interacts only with the definition through a Human UI interface."

David Rutten replied to Olivier Suire's discussion WISH :don't flush data from "Data Recorder"
"The recorder probably should cache the data as you suggest. In the meantime you can try sending the data to a generic parameter and internalising it. It does mean additional manual steps every time you save and open a file."

WISH :don't flush data from "Data Recorder"

I wish that the data gathered by the "Data recorder" wasn't flushed when the gh file is closed. This would allow to store information from session to session. We are trying to find an alternate way to store user values from value lists and sliders :  Human UI's "Save component states" is giving us a bit of trouble at present.Any other idea how we could save this information within the GH definition (I'd hate to use a separate text file) ?Cheers,See More

"[Trim Tree] is a simple alternative. At most I'd need to Simplify to make sure the outermost branches being trimmed aren't singular/meaningless branches. "

"I avoid Shift paths, I tend to systematically decompose the branches, recompose them and use find replace branches which I've found far more robust than both graph mapper and shift path."

Open Excel from GH

Hi,I can find many posts about data exchange between GH and Excel, but these various tools will work only if Excel has been open previously by the user.Is there a way to order Excel to open from within a definition ?This is mostly a matter of streamlining the interface os my tools, in addition to using Human UI.cheers,See More
