Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hi,

I am very new to this and finding it difficult to define with the complex terminology of Grasshopper, what it is I am trying to do.

In theory, I would like to investigate a growth that will take place on a mesh or lattice as shown in the below images. The mesh is to provide a consistent framework for the growth to take place keeping in mind a gravitational field (as depicted in the pictures with the growth build up creating stalactite formations below the mesh.

The building concept is a growing architecture and reacts to elements in the environment. I would like to visualize this with a time variable if possible.

Many thanks!

You need help with the concept or with the realization?

As a base case, a mesh can be modified by replacing the vertices by others, often this is done by moving the vertices using his normal, so everything is referred to a problem of finding the numerical value of the vectors. Something like this:

Then something you have to ask yourself is:
- Do I want to use a base mesh and modify its vertices in each discrete time? or I need something more complex, such as a "differential" mesh?

- If I use a base mesh, can I use his normals or in each discrete time I have to find new vectors for move the vertices?

- To calculate the moving distance of each vector, I have a formula? on what is dependent? just distance maybe?

If in this decision tree you choose the first option in all branches, this attached definition might be useful. Otherwise, you should specify more.

Have you tried using the Cocoon plug in at all?

Hi David, do you have any good links to tutorials or examples of simple definitions?
