Thank you, that totally works - the only thing missing was setting the "hint types".

I'll test if it also works flawless with more complex breps...

You need to set the types: right click on your "brep" input plug and set the "Type hint" to "Brep".

Thank you for the hint. I got python running and did it like in your screenshot but the python component returns the error message "1. Solution exception:expected Surface, got Guid"

I think I'll probably have to get a little more into python.

I found this component in the forum:

but this one explodes the brep - I don't want that.

I also found this one:

this one is actually doing what I need, but it seems to me its outputting geometry to the rhino viewport and then re-grabbing it into gh - which makes it kind of slow.

now I'm using the unroll component which is part "BullAnt" from GeometryGym. Its totally fine but there are a hole lot of components which I don't need. that's why I thought that just the single component would be just fine.

I'll keep an eye on this post here and maybe the little unroll will be available here soon.
