Patched interwoven surface

I mentioned in the Interwoven Surface blogpost that my first idea was to use the Rhino command "Patch" and that this unfortunately was not awailable in Grasshopper. But now, Marc… Continue

Selfintersecting Moebius Band

Continuing to explore the work of Rinus Roelufs, I had some progress with the selfintersecting Moebius band.

The holes that permits the surface to weave into itself are now circular. The definition is not all that parametric yet, meaning you can only change the size of the moebius, the size of the holes and whether the moebius band should be twisted… Continue

Connected holes

The first experiment with intewoven surfaces. Inspired by Rinus Roelofs work - connected holes.

Have a closer look at the presentation on Prezi.

I really like the Box Morph component in Grasshopper. Though… Continue

Interwoven surface

Inspired by the work of Rinus Roelofs I did a GH definition to weave surfaces. At first it used the Rhino command "Patch" to create the surface from boundary curves. Unfortunately "Patch" is not accessible in GH, so in this version another Rhino command - "NetworkSrf" - is used instead.

To use the definition you'd have to bake… Continue

"Thanks Matthew, you'll find a tutorial in the grasshopper primer. From page 79 Andy shows how to fill an entire surface with your geometry."

"Thank you Marc, this works great, I was just wondering if you had a chance to test it with python. On the other note, I want to try it with 6 curves, it does not trim the patch surface and gives me an untrimmed surface, do you know how to fix…"

"Now a days there's a createpatch method in rhinocommon. No need to use the patch command in rhino (although i find it works a bit better). A quick way to create a patch today is: -Place a VB component into the canvas, set the x input as a list…"

Lars Renklint replied to Lars Renklint's discussion Rotation causing strange behaviour
"Ok, now I do think I have to ask, is this a bug? The circle to the left uses the Vector rotation component,  and the one to the right is rotated with the Rotate axis component. What I was expecting is that they both would behave like the…"

Lars Renklint replied to Lars Renklint's discussion Rotation causing strange behaviour
"It's like in this particular case, with this amount of rotation that Grasshopper connects the three inner circles correctly, but then chooses the wrong side of the outermost circle."

Thanks for your comment on my 'Red and purple' composition in the 'Affine transformations' blog! A bit of recursion has been included in the deffinition applied in the model... I hope Milana will manage to define an IFS (Iterated Functional System) in Grasshopper, that will allow full control of recursivity and construction of fractal form...

Thanks! It's interesting to see what this forum can become. It's so much easier to communicate with other users rather than justing posting. Fina askar du gör förresten! Men det är väl inte dem du använder Grasshopper till, eller? Hälsningar!
