How to create 3D metaballs

I'm trying to create 3d metaballs based on a grid I've set up for myself. I've attached images of the type of 3d spheres/spacing I'm working with in just rhino. I'm also having difficulties producing the metaballs in 2d.

Thank you for the link but the issue is I've already looked at all of these and still can't figure it out. I just started using grasshopper a day ago and would really appreciate a more detailed description of how to create the definition.
