The measure Entropy is newer. I hereby explain it (from my PhD dissertation):
Entropy values, as described in (Hillier & Hanson, The Social Logic of Space, 1984) and specified in (Turner A. , “Depthmap: A Program to Perform Visibility Graph Analysis, 2007), intuitively describe the difficulty of getting to other spaces from a certain space. In other words, the higher the entropy value, the more difficult it is to reach other spaces from that space and vice-versa. We compute the spatial entropy of the node as using the point depth set:
(11)
“The term is the maximum depth from vertex and is the frequency of point depth *d* from the vertex” (ibid). Technically, we compute it using the function below, which itself uses some outputs and by-products from previous calculations:
Algorithm 4: Entropy Computation
Given the graph (adjacency lists), Depths as List of List of integer, DepthMap as Dictionary of integer
Initialize Entropies as List(double)
For node as integer in range [0, |V|)
integer How_Many_of_D=0
double S_node=0
For depth as integer in range [1, Depths[node].Max()]
How_Many_of_D=DepthMap.Branch[(node,depth)].Count
double frequency= How_Many_of_D/|V|
S_node = S_node - frequency * Math.Log(frequency, 2)
Next
Entropies [node] = S_node

ation production and consumption that represent our physical world in numbers and complex networks. The advent of computational systems has not only helped in developing data production but also in transmitting data between different disciplines including architecture through fields of numbers/codes. Historically, numbers and proportions played a vital role in architectural production, now; the complex flow of data is opening unexpected territories for architects. Data Flow is an advanced computational design workshop that focuses on capturing, processing and utilizing real time data from the surrounding environment by means of physical computing and parametric design tools, enabling the participants to develop informed design solutions that adapt to the environment. The workshop knowledge objective is to reconsider abstract data as a design opportunity by developing the quantitative flow of data as a qualitative design approach. /// Application To apply, please follow this link to fill the application form https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1xzKn-cZzfvu24ktTNP1ElGBAufdryfLNCXvpheucrS8/viewform /// Fees* 1700 EGP for students / 2000 EGP for graduates and young professionals * 20 % discount for early registration and payment before 22 nd of August 2014 more info on the workshop webpage: http://www.encodestudio.net/#!dataflow/cslb…
have some spare time please fill in my 3D Printing Open Survey - If you could make almost anything, what would it be ? Updated results are publicly available after completing questionnaire (Please press "Wyślij" - Send button and "Wyniki ankiety" - Results button at the end). This survey will be used to evaluate demand for 3d printing services globally. It consist of 30 questions about: - open-source 3d printers - future of additive manufacturing - 3d printing services - ecology in 3d printing - copyright issues and 3d printing Three example questions: 2. Which of the following 3d printing applications is the most interesting? * - Things personalization - Printing food - Attempts to print structures resembles in functioning living tissues or blood vessels - Creating impossible or difficult to create by using conventional technology things - Printing rooms or buildings on earth/moon - Printing chemical compounds (for example drugs) - Using in renewable energy sources - Printing parts and/or mechanical vehicles 3 . Have you ever heard about cheap DIY 3D Printers (for example RepRap, PrintrBot, MakiBox A6) ? * DIY - Do It Yourself - Yes - No 4 . When 3D Printers will become one of the typical household appliances ? * - After 5 years - After 10 years - After 15 years - After 20 years or later - Never - I don't know Feel free to ask questions!…
pecific character it encounters in the file a specific curve would be created (a line with a particular length/orientation associated with that specific character) whose starting point is on the end of the last previous line. here is simple action list:
read first character in txt file
identify character (number 20 in attached example)
insert line associated with character (1" horizontal line)
read next character in txt file.
identify character (number 8 in attached example)
start curve (specific curve associated with the number 8 (1.25" vertical line)) on the end of the previous line.
read next character in txt file.
identify character (number 5 in attached example)
start curve (specific curve associated with the number 5 (.25" horizontal line)) on the end of the previous line.
etc
loop repeats till end of txt file.
i am good with everything else (linking the file, building curves on the ends of things, creating line parameter w/ persistent data, etc) but I'm having a problem with the "if/then" nature of the project. I haven't found a component that has this sophistication yet... I've tried the equals component that compare lists and identify true/false scenarios and the f(x) along with dispatch to create a curve if a single situation occurs (like if x>3, then make a circle) but what about the next character?
I am wondering if I should do this in C+ (which I also don't know) but would rather create this in grasshopper.
See attached for example grasshopper file and txt file.
I would really appreciate any help you can offer - Thanks!!!

am having from Energy Plus.
I made a simple building with around 20 zones. I spent a lot of time in drawing this so it should be ok when it comes to tolerance issues. In any case it is MUCH better than other models I've simulated.
However I get around 3700 lines on my output and a total of 73 warnings and 38 severe errors.
The warnings have to do with the message "one of the surfaces has less than 3 identical coordinates and has been removed". The errors are various, ranging from FenestrationSurface erros due to invalid building surfaces, adiabatic surfaces cannot have windows or doors (even though I believe I did not set any surfaces as adiabatic), adjacent surface not found, etc. I attach my file and by running the simulation you can see the range of errors.
I am still running EP 8.1 btw, should I update to the new version?
I will start looking into my open zones. It is true I have some walls with holes (more like ventilation shafts) but I thought it would be ok. Also, I don't know for the life of me why I get surfaces with such a small area or why surfaces are removed. I tried to play with tolerance, and the above errors are with minimum value of 0.1. Many more come with 0.001.
Any insight would be appreciated. Also, do you think it would be possible to have some kind of component that can pinpoint the surfaces that give the error. Atm I can only see hexa names and not sure how I can select them.
Thank you very much in advance!
Kind regards,Theodore.…
se and compute the SP s in the 3D graph?
3. In the meantime, I made a very heavy model in which I can calculate a limited amount of shortest paths. See the attached image.
This is a beehive design. The combs which are inhabitable on both sides are radially distributed around a central core. There is a corridor around the inner core, as well as a peripheral gallery. Bees can also move above and below the combs. So I need the 3D dimensions in my model, or my mathematical imagination is not capable of thinking this planarly? I used the library from this link https://github.com/danilnagy/gd_tools but my model is very heavy. I made a triangulated mesh in order to define all the paths that the bees can take and defined random 20 points as start and end points to find the SPs. I guess with your system this would be faster. This image represents how I would like to think of the nest spaces and connectivity but in the honeybee nest case- which is a designed one not a natural one-…
he "return" is comment out as shown below?
After restarting Rhino and Grasshopper, I opened the outdoors_airflow demo file, and the first step of creating the case file is ok:
Then the blockMesh component gives the following error: seems I have to manually start OF first..
so, as the error message suggested, I open OF by Start_OF.bat:
Then come back to the blockMesh component, now it can be executed while the OF command line window is also openning:
... and the blockMesh finished successfully:
... so I proceeded to run snappyHexMesh, checkMesh and update fvScheme:
... up to the simpleFoam component, I got the error again:
The warning message is:
1. ... and the command lines in the readMe! output are pretty long and it is saved in the text file attached here.
So, my questions are:
1. why I have to manually start OF first before I can use the blockMesh component? Should butterfly automatically start OF?
2. what might be the cause of the unsuccessful run of simpleFoam in the end?
Hope you can kindly advise! Thank you!
