Revolutions have occurred through architectural history and vary widely in terms of design methods and fabrication techniques. Focusing on inspiring natural form‐finding techniques, AA Athens VS works towards producing a large‐scale interactive prototype that alters in real‐time the perception of interior space.
Technology and architecture are coupled for the third year in Athens with a novel agenda of transforming an enclosed area and creating internal contrasting city‐life characteristics that transcend the local conditions. In collaboration with the National Technical University of Athens, Cipher City: Revolutions explores participatory design and active engagement modeling and continues building novel prototypes upon horizontal planes.
The toolset includes mainly ‐among others‐ Rhino Grasshopper, Processing and Arduino platforms. With the completion of the Programme participants receive the AA Visiting School Certificate. In 2013, the design agenda of AA Athens will connect with the agenda of AA Greece VS in the city of Patras. Participation in both Programmes will allow for a more extensive learning experience through additional tools like Autodesk Maya, Autodesk 3D Studio Max and more.
Discounts
The AA offers several discount options for participants wishing to apply as a group or participants wishing to apply for both AA Athens and AA Greece Visiting Schools:
1. Standard application
The AA Visiting School requires a fee of £600 per participant, which includes a £60 Visiting Membership. If you are already a member, the total fee will be reduced automatically by £60 by the online payment system. Fees are non-refundable.
2. Group registration
For group applications, there will be a range of discounts depending on the number of people in the group. The discounted fee will be applied to each individual in the group.

odules; one has 50 curves, the other has 25. Some of the objects in each set overlap and are essentially duplicates of each other (but not every curve - The only thing that may vary is the color of the object but the coordinates are exactly the same). I'm looking for a way to isolate only the ones that overlap.
When this problem came up with points I had to do a really annoying process of creating cylinders and intersecting them with another line - basically a really convoluted process that didn't work exactly and was hyper-specific to this situation of points. Now I have the same general problem, just with curves. I feel like if there is not an easy way of doing this in grasshopper (I've searched all over, so I'm not sure if there is) it seems like it would be an extremely simple VB.NET operation.

is (cd/m^2), or am I missing something? I think it would be very useful to have a mapping of light intensity over the field of view of the used camera, and possibly and option to overlay it on the luminance mapping. It would in a very visual way provide information about contrast and glare.
4. It's just a shoebox type simulation. 11x11 luminaires pointing down to simple materials. The default elapsed time was 3m40s. I have found the _RadParameters component meanwhile, and got it down to 0m30s. I have noticed that the simulation doesn't tax multiple cpu threads completely, most of the time cpu is at 25% during execution.
5. Is it possible to map different degrees of translucency, diffuse color, absorptance, reflectance, etc..., by means of a bitmap image, expression, or other?
6. There is a feature that I consider absolutely necessary (and I haven't found it yet), which is the emitting surface feature, with the ability to stipulate homogeneous intensity with luminance values (in cd/m^2) or flux; and by mapped distribution of intensities or luminances (in cd or cd/m^2).
By emitting surface I don't mean just a flat rectangular plane, such as an area light. It would be absolutely amazing! to perform photometric analysis on irregular and convoluted shapes and the light falling on neighbouring surfaces. 3DS Max with MentalRay provides similar functionality, but without the power of GH + HB.

nnovative methods for synthesising drawing and 3D printing. Working with Objet Geometries high resolution, multimaterial liquid 3D printing technology, participants will be involved in an intensive ten-day programme of making and testing 2D, ‘thick 2D’ and 3D digital printing techniques to invent architectural surfaces.
The workshop programme is inspired by British pioneers of art and architectural representation – Joseph Gandy, Robert Adam, James Stirling, David Hockney and John Outram – and informed by Israel’s unique cultural heritage of textiles and ceramics.
The workshop is the testing ground for AA Intermediate Unit 9’s ongoing experiments to blur the boundary between drawing and 3D printing. The objet trouvé, exquisite corpse and other Surrealist and Dadaist techniques form the basis for these investigations.
The workshop’s objective is to deliver an atlas of prints (working with measured drawings from non-architectural
disciplines) from each participant (a ‘3D takeaway’) that they will incorporate into future projects and
publications, giving the workshop a wide-ranging material and intellectual influence.
Participants will work in at least two of four different AA-led design units over the ten days.
The teaching staff also includes Eran Neuman and Aaron Sprecher of Open Source Architecture, as well as Marco Ginex and Adam Nathaniel Furman of Madam Studio, and Arthur Mamou-Mani from the AA
In addition to advanced software tuition, there will be regular evening lectures (invited speakers include
Neri Oxman and Erez Ella) and workshops including a hands-on working session with Objet Geometries
chief software engineer, Yossi Abu.
The final jury will be a day-long presentation/exhibition at the
ZeZeZe Gallery in the Tel Aviv port.

Recharged with interconnectivity on different levels, the theme of investigation will revolve around the design of semi-independent design prototypes acting together to form elaborate unified results. The driving force in Cipher City: Recharged is the synergistic effect behind complex form-making systems where interactive design patterns arise out of a multiplicity of relatively simple rules.
In collaboration with the National Technical University of Athens, Cipher City: Recharged will explore participatory design and active engagement modeling and will continue building novel prototypes upon horizontal planes.
As in 2012, the design agendas of AA Athens and AA Istanbul Visiting Schools will directly create feedback on one another, allowing participation in either one or both Programmes.
