Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

A very simple question (I assume) on direction vector of curve

Hello all,

I am trying to extrude a curve using the 'extrude' module in Grasshopper. For the module, I need:

a. curve itself

b. direction of extrusion (in form of vector)

How do I extract a (direction) vector of a curve? What module should I use? I went through all the Grasshopper icons, but I couldn't find anything.

Can anyone put me in the right direction? Thanks in advance.

for starters you can,

1.Right click vector input, select set vector, and set a vector in rhino

2.use the x, y, or z component and plug it into vector input and plug a slider or number into the x, y, or z component.

3.Do step 2 but with a vector xyz component and then use the amplitude component.

4.Use the vector2point component and set a vector between 2 points and use amplitude component.

In the specific case you show, set the line into grasshopper with a curve component, plug that into a endpoints component, plug the sart point and end point into vector2point, plug that vector into amplitude with a length and plug that into the extrude vector.

Hi Hyoseok, looking at the picture you added, I'd say you want the normal of the plane that the polygon is on. (It is a planar polygon, right?)
(you can use a line instead of a vector too)

Thanks guys. I figured it out finally. It was hard for me to find the right modules, looking at pics you gues posted. My modules have letters, not pictograms. X( (Yes, I am a real newbie in the area)

So i got this. Thanks again!

Hi Hyoseok, how did you end up getting that form? I am trying to achieve a similar, extruded curves following the shape of a surface.

thanks,
