Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Here's the situation.

There's this skin system I've been trying to emulate for days now to no avail,
http://www.evolo.us/competition/rhizome-tower-a-thousand-undergroun...

I have this project where my skin is dense in certain areas, and more transparent allowing light to get through, and I've tried looking at grasshopper attractor definitions, rhino-scripts, and anything else at trying to duplicate what's going on here.

What makes this project even more difficult is this outer shell I have created to which I want to layer this system around, however, the problem I believe lies in the fact that it's not one whole surface, but multiple surfaces joined together as one. I've been messing with attractors enough so that if I can somehow manage to get that object as one big surface I can lay the attractors to create that surface, but I don't know if I'm approaching this the wrong way or what, and anything else I've tried doesn't work.

If anyone can help me out in terms of emulating that skin system somehow, and soon because I'm on a deadline here in a couple of days, that would be great. Any info, links, tutorials, or just simply an explanation how I can do this, I'd be in your debt thanks.

EDIT: my rhino file was over 2 megabytes, so i zipped it up in a rar file. hope that doesnt inconvenience some of you guys.
