Attractor + triangles (question)

I saw that a very interesting photo, and was thinking how to make such think using attractor definition(or maybe something else I don't know).. but what is important in the definition is how to create the diagonal module that devide the surface, I mean is that possible to combine that level of detail with the attractor definition, I will be so happy if someone helped to show us how.. thank you
