Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Quick attempt at creating clean outlines for a base-five digit typeface. Utterly unrelated to Grasshopper development in any way, just having some fun this misty and chilly Sunday.

Yeah my method isn't water-tight either. I sometimes have to change the number of ellipses or the Region Union fails. It's pretty unpredictable. I suspect switching to very dense polylines and using a non-nurbs region algorithm is ultimately the way to go. That, or render a bitmap and trace it.

Thanks David for your "recreation", it was also a recreation for me trying to remake it. Your Idea with ellipse (or other shape) could surely be interesting to recreate other style, like the one Marcus Strube did

For the ellipse method I also have another method, more fast, but not usable every time, it rotates the curve, scale them in one direction, offset them in 2 directions, connect the end with bulge or arc. Rescale them and re rotate them.
