algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hey guys try to model parts of the AADRL pavilion, C-Space

i havnt really done much rhino before but does anyone know if there is a a script that could help model the pavilion. im trying to use a waffle script but its not quite what i need.

Hello Ike,

Yes i think i can help.. Ok this is my solution: the tricky part here is that the ribs are flat so first you need to split your double curved surface with planes perfectly oriented. For this i suggest yout to divide the curves you used to loft your surface (in my case 3 so i can build planes with 3 points)
Then just offset the surface split both surfaces with this planes and loft the new lines in both surfaces. Here are your ribs. Just planes but later you can play with thickness etc..

For different orientations for your planes (visually interesting..) you can use shift command so you can "force" starting and finishing angles of incidence as in AApavilion. Also playing with the number of division in the curves will cause different effects on the orientation of the planes.

hey javier, ive been playing with some other grasshopper stuff for a while now back onto cspace (been through the primer now so hopefully im not such a newbie)

im trying to make curves along the surface of the cspace then build these curves up into surfaces, not sure if this is the way to do it. ive run into problems doing it this way
i did this by dividing the lofted surface then creating interpolated curves.

i cant seem to get the interpolated curves running in both directions.

i know this isnt how you recommended to do it (which by the way looked correct) but im not 100% sure i understood your method

ive uploded the ghx and 3dm files for anyone to have a look at

any help would be greatly appreciated

Hi Ike ive been looking to your definition. I see what you tried but the prblem in the definition is that i will not work for having flat planes( ribs) if you deform your surface.
Now you are working with a parallel surface. Is double curved but beginnnig and end openings are paralel so if you divide the srface as you did you will have always the same distance between lines. Thats the problem. In the moment you deform your geometry those lines that now are in flat planes will be curved so you will not be able to build your flat ribs as in the Cspace. By the moment the only way i think its possible to make it working for any deformed geometry is the way i told you before. Remeber that the key point is that you are looking for FLAT ribs. So you can later cut them with lasser 2D.
