Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

I am trying to use data from Ecotect via Geco GH to drive certain geometry. I'd like to used the insolation values to drive the extrusion amount on a surface. The problem is that I can't get them to extrude perpendicular to the face normals. Any suggestions on how to accomplish this?

Hi David,

Toward which direction do you wish you surface to be oriented to? Toward Y+ or Y- direction?

Y+

In that case I had to rotate your surface for 180 degrees as sun "comes" from the -Y to Y+ direction on the northern hemisphere.

To edit the extrusion height of the panels play around with the slider grouped in green. If that does not satisfy you, try increasing, decreasing the "5" number at the "Evaluate" component grouped in green too.

I was using a different file path for the weather file, even though it is still Atlanta.
So that is the part you need to change, when you open the .gh file (assign your own Atlanta weather file path again).

And by the way, I would be very grateful if you would save all your future .3dm files in Rhino 4 format. Some of us are still using that version of Rhino.
Thank you.
