Thanks for the compliments. Yeah the interim model worked very well. 

We are planning to make a much large scale model for finals. Just trying change the code a bit and work out the funding.

Bea we did not intend to copy the Kinetic Sculpture. We needed the small beads as weights for the strings. Our intents were to create a ceiling for a theatre that could adapt to various performances and crowd densities (Check out the render). This was also a conceptual model to play with grasshopper/arduino and work out the logistics and mechanics of making a larger one that would raise and lower strings/leds/panels. It just so happened to look similar to the BMW sculpture

Sweet!  Nice work, and prob a lot cheaper than the BMW version! Very smart use of the servo and the material surface!
