Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

I got this situation, 3 surfaces in Rhino, connected together with a sharp edge, please check the screenshot.

I tried the join command, but it just groups the 3 surfaces together not converts the 3 into 1.

so is there anyway to do the converting thing?

If your surfaces happen to be planar then you could make a planarSrf from the Edges of your joined BRep.

But I suspect from the image that they are not. In which case you you are going to have to create section curves and loft them. (Thinking out load here as I haven't tried this yet)

it's not planar, I tried the lofting command as well, but those sharp edges were gone which I want to keep.
In which case it has to be a polysurface.
You can keep em sharp with the loft options' T input set to 3.

btw: is there a rule for lofting curves that touch?
That's still a polysurface

converting the polysurface into single surface, is that possible?

otherwise how am i supposed to introduce the polysurface into grasshopper?

I'm right now using the Geometry container in Grasshopper to hold the polysurface, but when I tried to project some curves on this polysurface, it throws me error, I think it's because the 'project' requires for a BRep.

Just checking.....

Have you got the right Project Component?

Curve>Util>Project

It should have 3 inputs C,B and D and 1 output C

You can use any of the following Geometry Params: multiple surfaces in Surface or a polysurface in BRep or Geometry. And you can even join the separate surfaces with the BRep Join component before passing it into the Project Component.

Hi,

What is what you want to achieve by having a single surface with this shape apart from projecting some curves? depending what you wnat to achieve there may be a different approach (just thinking).

you could use the creasespliiting command in rhino and loft 4 curves with the straight option, see attached. Yo can play with the profile curves you loft as neccesary.

This is integrated in V5 you will need to download it from the rhinolabs for R4,  I hope it helps.
