Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hey everyone,

first post and sorry because i'm new to grasshopper but i need some help. Is there a way to use a custom geometry (in my case a sort of smashed hexagon) instead of circles and squares when working with attractor points? I'm trying to apply a pattern (using this shape) to a screen wall i'm creating but i'm not sure how to do this? it seems like it should be possible if i'm trying to do the same thing as with a square/circle but just using a different shape?

Any help would be much appreciated and sorry having to make a new post, but i've exhausted my search for the answer to this.

Thank you,

Kyle

if this is hard to visualize, its going to be a flat screen wall and the hexagon shape that i'm trying to incorporate will be perforations varying in size and spacing based on an attractor curve. thanks again and any advice / direction would be much appreciated.

Hi Kyle,

Can you post and image/sketch of what your're after?

Here is an basic example of what i'm trying to accomplish, the same thing only using my own 6 sided shape instead of circles. hope this helps and thanks for the response...look forward to hearing any input.

so you need a polyline shape, analyse it with "find closest point on curve" (points from centers of grid), measure the lenght of connections (points from grid to points on curve), and than you can connect it with i.e. "scale" to change size of every single cell.

or you can made it with image sampler - look for tutorial

If you want your own shape to create a grid, just make a normal grid (rect, sqr, or hex) and then take the center points (area m2), next put your shapes in this center points (i.e. move with vector). This should succeed with same data structure as grid.

Hi Kyle,

Please have a look at the enclosed, this accepts any geometry and can be applied to any surface with any profile curve.

There is another approach using a grid of points and not a surface but the same can be achieved with the enclosed, I hope it helps!
