Troubleshooting with divide domain / isotrim a trimmed surface?

I have a surface for a site that I have generated using the drape tool to which i would like to subdivide into a series of grids.

The issue is that the surface has been trimmed using a cut plane in rhino, and the isotrim function divides the original untrimmed surface instead.

What is the issue with this? Could anyone explain?

Attached is the grasshopper definition with the surface internalised.
