algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hey all,

I am very new at using Karamba.

I am trying to analyze a simple cantilever beam.

I download a premade Ghx definition of a cantilever beam (please see attached), and realized that the cross section of the beam is not closed.. 

I tried to use Cross section component in karamba for Box Cross section, Shell and Circular hollow, but all of them are open and not closed at both ends of the beam. 

I was wondering if there is any way to make the cross section closed at both end of the beam to make it a solid.

Please advise.

'Cap Holes'?

Yes,, cap holes. 

If it is a regular Grasshopper definition,, I can give a cap to that holes at both end of the object.. But when using Karamba,, I suppose the geometry is not defined as regular geometry anymore (since it used "line to beam component in Karamba"), so instead it is defined as a "model", so I cannot treat it as geometry and thus cannot customizing it as usually I do.

Please advise.

You know 'Cap Holes' is a GH component, right?

I have no idea about using Karamba - I don't have it installed and without it, your GH file contains only two 'Pt' params and a 'Line' component - nothing else!?

Yes Joseph,, I understand that "Cap Holes" is a GH component.. And in fact I often used that for customizing my geometry such as to put a cap in my 'cap-less' geometry. 

But then, to use Karamba for modelling a beam, as far as I know, since I'm new to Karamba, is to start from a line, then use "Line to Beam" component in Karamba to define a geometry as a beam. After using this component, Grasshopper will not understand it as regular geometry anymore, but it becomes a "Model" than Karamba understand. And from there, we only mostly use Karamba component to customizing the "Model" such as to customize the cross section width and all. So using "Cap Holes" will not put a cap in it, and will produce an warning in GH. 

The result of beam analysis with a hollow member will be different than the member that is solid. My intention is to compare the results of this simple analysis with Karamba with the actual FEA tool. But then I have to solve this Cap Hole problem first.

Sorry if I were not able to explain this well, and thanks Joseph for your response in this matter.

Hopefully that somebody here will be able to help me with this issue.

I still cannot figure out to solve this cap holes problem in both ends of the beam when using Karamba component (Line to Beam).

As you may know when analyzing a structural element (in any FE software) we use its central line and then we assign to this line the corresponding geometry info (section, material, restrains ..) as parameters and not as geometry, I am not sure why you want to close the section from both ends ? .. You don't need to have a closed geometry to analyze your beam, all what you need is the center line ..
