Would be cool to try out the Bitmap Tracer component from Firefly... Could give some nice effects.  Nice work.

for travel time reduction you can also use this algorithm by Jake Newsum

If i would have a robot i would go for oil-painting :)

NICE! would probably go even faster if you flipped every other curve to reduce travel time... looking forward to seeing more results. good work!
