algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hello there,'

I am trying to create a tensile structure on a plane surface of a platonic solid ( I am picking only one of the faces of the platonic dodecahedron) which is basically a polygon.

I am using lunch box in this script, but if u dont have it, know that I am just trying to manipulate a simple 5 edged flat polygone.

Here is the rhino and grasshopper script and print screen.

I think the main problem come from the number of messy points that are dividing the polygon.

why not relax one pentagon and then mirror - rotate the output as needed to have the platonic solid

This is sort of exactly what I'm looking for! except I need two or more points for the tent to pull at... is this possible?

Hello Alexandra,

I believe it should be possible but you would have to provide some more information that would clarify what "sort of exactly" means.

Adding more anchor points is easy. They can be referenced points from rhino or internalized points in grasshopper or they can be points picked from the original mesh nodes based on some logic (that's the case with my definition, I selected the corners of the polygon + the central elevated point). You just have to make sure that the points you select are (almost) exactly on top of some of the mesh nodes, otherwise they will not be regarded as anchor points.

The main difficulty is creating your original mesh with the "right" topology, to give you the desired result...

In my definition you can add another anchor point (internalized in GH), making sure that it matches the location of one of the original mesh nodes. The result will be some thing like this:

...which, I believe, is not what you are after...

This happens because of the way the original mesh was designed (6 trianglular meshes, with subdivided faces).

So I think you should explain what you are after in more detail.

Because there will be 800 polygons xD

This is what I am trying to apply the script to. I just used a simple platonic solid to get it done right on a simple shape, then transfer that to a more complex form

Each one of those polygons should have the tent tensile
