Attractor points to control pipes on surface of sphere

Greetings!

I am new to the site and equally new to grasshopper and am in need of some assistance.

What I am trying to accomplish is to place a pattern on a surface similar to the architectural installation titled Tea house for robots. I have attached files below to illustrate. I am trying to take the pattern as just lines where the openings can be controlled by attractor points. I then want to make the lines into pipes and subtract them from the surface of my object. The object is essentially a distorted sphere or a pitted olive shape.

If I could even get the operations to work on a flat surface it would be a great asset. I am quite new to grasshopper and am even having difficulty in getting started. I achieved a similar effect to what I want by manually doing it in Rhino (below) but it is tedious and controling the lines that way I want is not working so well.

Any suggestions or help would be very much appreciated. Thanks!
