Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hi everybody,

Not sure if this is a simple question and I have just overshot it...

Im trying to add a polyline to a mesh to act as an edge using kangaroo for mesh relaxation.

Surely this is an easy thing to do but it has been driving me crazy. Could someone please clarify some steps for me?

Thanks

maybe easy, maybe not so easy - it depends on the shape of your mesh and the polyline. can you post some geometry or at least images?

I'm really trying with something as simple as this... I want to add the curves highlighted in white to the edges of the mesh.

Thanks

Here is a down and dirty approach. In general I avoid using surface split cuz it can have some funny side effects and is really slow - but for the case you show it might work OK.

One caveat is that the lines you draw wind up creating regions that have more than 4 sides, while a mesh can only have triangular and quadrilateral faces. To get around this I've introduced additional edges so that these 5+ sided regions are composed of triangles and quads.

(you might get a version warning when you open this since I made it on Grasshopper for mac - but don't worry, it ought to work just fine.)

Thanks mate, Appreciate it
