Kangaroo is a Live Physics engine for interactive simulation, optimization and form-finding directly within Grasshopper.

Hi James,
In the current public release of Kangaroo, one possibility is to use the "Mirror" force on consecutive sets of 4 points along a curve. The effect is similar to that described by Adriaenssens hereĀ http://opus.bath.ac.uk/35150/. However this only works well on curved members because of how it ties to the curvature.
In the upcoming version the options are improved though - you could make each node a full 6dof rigid body and get the beam stresses from the relative orientations of each end.
Or it should also be possible to use the Bishop frame and model torsion/anisotropic bending with just a single additional scalar per 3dof node, along the lines described here: http://www.cs.columbia.edu/cg/rods/.
