Readfile Component Problem when Reading CSV file

Hey all,

My Rhino version is Rhino 5 SR11

Grasshopper version is Grasshopper 0.9.0076

I have currently a problem of reading CSV file from Grasshopper.

Previously when I used excel 2005, the file saved as CSV file can be read from Grasshopper Readfile component, but when I used excel 2016, it has this complain in Grasshopper Readfile component:

1.Before Solution exception:Could not load file or assembly 'ad4c257a-f262-470d-8c89-b387d933d6e2.dll' or one of its dependencies. Access is denied.

2. There is no valid parser available.

How can I fix this problem?

Thank you in advance.

This should work just fine. I am also using Excel 2016 to export .csv files and they work just fine.

Can you attach the .csv and .gh file in question.

Hey Armin,

Thanks for the response.

I attach the files here.

The panel in Grasshopper is the directory where I have that f.csv file.

I am using Rhino 5, would it perhaps cause incompatibility with excel 2016 somehow, because previously when my laptop had the excel 2005, it works.

Also would there be other ways of reading csv file in Grasshopper other than using that ReadFile component such as using VBscript component?

Just in case if it happens that the bugs are the problem.

Thank you very much again, and please let me know if it worked in yours.

Hi.

Hm, strange it works fine over here. Maybe you should use the filepath parameter instead. There you can right-click and "set one file path", which is more convenient than writing the path.

I have attached a file with a VBScript component that does the same thing (but also works if the file is on a network share).

The .csv file you sent only contains a single number though, but it should work fine. I use .csv files from Excel 2016 in Rhino 5 with many columns and thousands of lines with no problem.

Hey Armin,

Thank you very much for those.

I tried that file in Rhino 32 bit and it works perfectly, however it does not work on Rhino 64. Since the Karamba for Rhino 32 and 64 bit works differently in that some of the components are no there in 32, I am still trying to figure out why the this ReadFile component does not work in Rhino 5.

Could it be that when my Karamba License expired, it somehow negatively affect some other Grasshopper components to make the not work properly?

Because previously as mentioned before that my the Readfile component works in Rhino 64bit when excel 2016 is not there and when my Karamba license is still working.

Should I reinstall Grasshopper entirely again for the Readfile component to work in Rhino 64bit?

In this case all the plugins I have will have to be reinstalled again in Grasshopper.

Please advise.

Thank you very much in advance.

I kind of doubt it, but its worth a try to reinstall.

Just save the contents of your components folder somewhere else, so you have a backup. With a very few exceptions (firefly comes to mind) you dont really need to install the plugins, but they are just placed in the components folder. So after a reinstall of GH, you can copy them all back into place.

Better even would be to first try the readfile component when no plugins are installed just to be sure that it works. If that doesn't help then I guess a reinstall of Rhino is in order.

Btw, I only use the 64-bit Rhino.

Hey Armin,

Thanks again for your prompt reply.

I have uninstall the Grasshopper and reinstall it again. Also I have found the similar problem from this post:

http://www.grasshopper3d.com/forum/topics/read-file-component-error

Its exactly the same problem as mine.

I have followed the trick suggestion by @M[I]A  to unblock that GH file prior to reinstalling. And still it does not fixed anything.

The Readfile component has this sentence even before I plug any path to the ReadFile component

Before Solution exception:Could not load file or assembly '381ffdd4-2cba-4f5a-949f-b4437d95dc12.dll' or one of its dependencies. Access is denied.

The last thing I would try is to reinstall Rhino 5 64 bit, which would perhaps be tomorrow. But even that I dont really know if it will fix anything.

Hopefully someone could enlighten me of what is going on regarding this issue.
