Breaking up a given surface by determining an interval to develop UV's will result in straight, parallel 'sections'.  It's easy enough to allow for uneven spacing between them, but they of course remain straight and perfectly parallel.

This is of course not always the best option when it comes to fabrication and other intentions.

How about UV sections that are curved in plan, and controlled either by surface curvature (principal) or by another set of contingencies?

I'm not absolutely certain of this but I believe that in a given surface the U-V directions are fundamental properties of the surface generating mathematics and it wouldn't be possible to have 'curvy' U-V directions.  Also surface curvature would be a result of the surface and it wouldn't be possible to use it as 'feedback' to generate the surface. 

 

What fabrication problems are you having?
