Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

hi, i'm new here :) and absolutely new to grasshopper and rhinoceros as well. i'm in need of dire help please. i am trying to model something similar to fuksas' myzeil shopping mall, where the facade/surface of the building gets 'sucked in', creating a tunnel. the surface don't particularly need to be of similar triangulation, i haven't decided on that yet. i'm more concerned of getting a smooth transition from surface into tunnel. so whatever is easier really, then i can play around as i further understand how to manipulate it. another reference would be the TED building by BIG.

i've tried lofting curves to form the tunnel and got almost what i wanted (on both rhino and grasshopper) which i could further explore but can't seem to nail how to make from surface to tunnel smooth. and to further have control of the surface to make it more undulating. displacing the points on the surface perhaps? i've attached my previous attempts at modelling it on rhino. its horrible and embarrasing and nothing near what i wanted to achieve but i really need help so there you have it. please and thank you in advance!

Seems like a nurbs modelling exercise for Rhino i guess... but you might also want to experiment with surface relaxation...

surface relaxation requires kangaroo, yes? is there any way i can go about without having to opt for that, since im still elementary with grasshopper even. thank you for replying btw!

I'm really not getting anywhere with this. I tried just messing around with control points on rhino and whilst undulating surfaces can quite easily be created, it's very much arbitrary. and that's only the surface, haven't gotten to morphing it to create a tunnel...

In Rhino you'd create the surface, then the tunnel and "BlendSrf" both surface.

For surface relaxation you need to define a rough approximation of what the shape topology should look like and mesh it. Define where this mesh is fixed and run it through Kangaroo or any other relaxation component.

I was just playing around with this and didn't clean it up at all.

whoaa.. wouldn't be able to figure that out by myself, thanks a lot!!! i'll give that a go as well as the surface relaxation method. i have previously tried BlendSrf, its quite limited though. Anyway, thanks again muchly!! I'll post my outcomes, hopefully something substantial!

Above is the wormhole done in Rhino and then distorted using Cage Edit to get the result below (rendered).

Chris, how did you do that in Rhino?
