Poll for next release of Scarab (for Maxwell Render)

I'm thinking of the how to move on with the priorities for the next release.Originally I planned multi-layer materials for 0.3.Looks like some of you would rather have a better way to start rendering…Continue

Okay guys... calling out to all the maxwell users. This is the very first Beta so I am not even sure, this will work. So I'm glad for any feedback/bug report.…Continue

Hannes Löschke replied to Ifigenia Lambrou's discussion Torus
"And if there isn't, a torus is just a circle swept along another circle, or a circle revolved around an axis, or loft though a couple of rotated circles. Then extract UV isocurves from the surface as a wireframe, as phillip suggested."

Hannes Löschke replied to Tor Øistein Andresen's discussion Mesh to solid
"Short answer is "no, there is no easy way". Try to search this forum. There are a couple of topics on how to convert mesh to NURBS objects."

Hannes Löschke replied to Daniel Eika's discussion The beam element used by Karamba
"It's hidden in the render settings. I'm not sure whether this will actually affect the calculation. You get some slightly differnent coloration depending on the number of faces and the subdivisions, but this might be only a display issue."

Hannes Löschke replied to Sébastien Mennetret's discussion Rhino/Grasshopper as slave on server
"I'm not the one to do this often, but... ...this made me LOL :D"

Hannes Löschke replied to Daniel Eika's discussion The beam element used by Karamba
"With "disassemble" I mean looking into the code of the components. ;) Default KARAMBA beams are linear elements that are connected ridgidly at their endpoints. I cannot comment on the internal calculation model, as this is hidden in a…"

Hannes Löschke replied to Meagan Wood's discussion Adding Circles to the Surface of an Object
"Try low numbers of subdivision. Computation time increases with the square of subdivisions. If this still is not responding, there might be some other problem."
yesterday
Hannes Löschke replied to Daniel Eika's discussion The beam element used by Karamba
"The Karamba manual is all the information there is. To find out more, you could disassemble the module. But this wouldn't really help you using Karamba beams in GH, because Karamba components would still be the only components that…"

Hannes Löschke replied to melanie w's discussion multiple slider animation
"Have you tried Genoform? Other than that, you'll have to think of a math relation that calculates all your desired values from one single slider value. This really only works for discrete slider values though. The modulo operation is your…"

Hannes Löschke replied to Daniel Eika's discussion The beam element used by Karamba
"The karamba beam is a proprietary type. You can use it through karamba components only."

Scarab

Scarab is a set of components that exposes Maxwell Render materials to Grasshopper. Materials can be assigned and baked to Grasshopper geometry.mxBake is the final tool in the chain. Use the Grasshopper bake commands to bake the connected geometry with the corresponding materials.…See More

Hannes Löschke replied to Andrew's discussion unable to make a surface regular subdivision
"UV coordinates are based on local complexity of the surface. So parts with lots of curvature and/or control points will see a more dense grid of UVs. So to get a uniform distribution on a non uniformly curved surface, you should avoid UVs or think…"

Hannes Löschke replied to Luke W's discussion Rule-based design, can grasshopper do it?
"To take Dannys reply a little further: Implementing a technical rule book in a generalized way would require GH to know that geometry A is a "Light" and geometry B is a "beam". GH doesn't have such distinctions and…"

Hannes Löschke replied to Anja's discussion precision error - region union
"Actually this is one for the FAQ... Floating point numbers are able to store only a finite amount of significant digits. This is about 6 for single precision (some Rhino mesh commands might use this) and about 16 decimal digits for double precision…"

Hannes Löschke replied to Sebastian L.'s discussion Display problem grasshopper preview in rhino
"After Rhino5 started acting weird on me (viewports freezing in OpenGL mode, dialog content shifted 90% out of the forms canvas on the first draw call,...), I can now confirm that a simple uninstall/reinstall cycle doesn't fix the GH…"

Hannes Löschke replied to Sebastian L.'s discussion Render Mesh + gradient with Vray
"Baking materials/Attributes only allows for one material. This will be a standard rhino material with Giulios'. Scarab bakes Maxwell Render materials. Both are currently limited to simple colors per object. mapped colors would require texture…"
