algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hey! How to creat a 3D voronoi Skeleton within a freeform Mesh Solid?????

I can make a 3D voronoi skeleton  facade for a  freeform Mesh Solid.

I can make a 3D voronoi skeleton within a Box.

But does anybody knows how to creat a  entire 3D voronoi skeleton according to a  freeform Mesh Solid????  Because, that's how it really goes in the Nature!

my Try:

step 1) build the facade skeleton with the outlines intersected from Voronoi cells and the skin of skyscraper. then use a some borrowed GH-sets to loft those outlines.

step 2)  use some other borrowed GH-sets to loft the whole 3D Voronoi Skeleton. Then bake them.  and then use "mesh boolean" in Rhino, to get the inner 3D Skeleton for the Skyscraper.

step 3)  combine them, it's not perfect, but not too bad.

This is the result.

Problem: When I try to make the Point cloud more denser, the  "mesh boolean" allways failed out. Because those Skeleton-meshs are too komplicated to split.

any ideas??

Thanks!!!

wow! Thanks! but that needs Rhino 5.....

I'll get it!

but the result is not so perfect....for example the shape of the skeletons.

can you told me the normal way to solve my problem?

thanks!

can someone give me a help?

Hello,

I am trying to do a simple 3D voronoi skeleton within a Box, just how you mentioned it, Isabel.

I do not have a lot experience with grasshopper and wanted to ask for your help.

Creating a box and attach the 3d voronoi component is not really a problem. Though I can not make it a voronoi skeleton in the inside.

It would be very helpful if someone can help me out with this. The best thing would be a screenshot of how it is constructed in grasshopper.

Thank you for your help!

Hi Elisabeth,

actually i made it by using T-Spline Pipe command, which is much more simpler than creating a script for the skeleton structure. You can have look at this tutorial. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zg6-liJVl48

Have fun!

Hey, thanks for the quick answer.

Though, I am not able to get access to the t-spline pipe. I also checked it before, cause I am using my computers at school. Generally, I do not need to smooth out the skeleton structure. I also know a way of how to create a skeleton voronoi in 2d. I cant figure it out for 3d yet though! Do you know how to simply set an offset to the the voronoi in a 3d box?

Thanks in advance!

hi, you may check out this link:http://www.grasshopper3d.com/forum/topics/skeletal-mesh

take a closer look at its script. before they smooth the skeleton, the original form is angular :)

Thanks Elisabeth , this really helped

hi, i didn't figer out a smart way to do that.

but you may try this way:

1, creat a cuboid biger than your freeform. run the "3d Voronoi" component.

2, do an intersection between those voronoi cells and your freeform.

3. run a T-spline pipe command or a simple pipe command

hope that will help :)

forget one thing, the intersection is for getting the voronoi-pattern-lines along your freeform

I tested this out of curiosity and I got the following results:

Any idea how to get it to look closer to the organic look of the red ceramic image you linked to?

Thanks so much for the instruction on how to get the linework though!
