Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

i think it might be useful to have a discussion where people can input ideas for new features that could be incorporated in future releases. some good stuff might come up!
i don't feel i'm entitled to open such a discussion though, but a moderator might..
anyone on board?

(PS; if such discussion already exists, i apologize)

Yes thats what I meant.
sort points sorry
changing the background color of gh (canvas) would be nice too... justa thought. so we can all geek out drawing strange indecipherable architectural formulas on a nice, mysterious black background. think of all the ladies falling for us in a cafe! ok this is getting strange, i'll stop.
Click on the [File->Open Settings...] menu in Grasshopper. Then close gGrasshopper + Rhino, and open the file in that folder called grasshopper_kernel.xml in a text editor. Find the following two entries:

"Canvas:CustomBG"
"Canvas:CustomBGColour"

change the "false" in the first line to "true" (no quotes) and then change the "255;255;255;255" to "255;0;0;0".

This will turn your background black.

A lot of things will now no longer be visible, as there are still a lot of hard-coded colours everywhere.

When you change these xml files, you can always delete entire entries, as long as you keep the xml properly formatted. This will revert to factory defaults. You can also delete the entire *.xml file is you've screwed up beyond repair.

Thanks David!
initially i browsed for this in the _colors.xml without success. it never came to my mind to look in the _kernel.xml, though i have to admit that knowing all the registry settings were moved inside the xml files, i should have looked harder. Again, thanks.

One more thing that crossed my mind, even before the profiler widget came around, but seeing it now gives me new hope: maybe, just maybe, a progress bar for "heavy" components (the like of boolean ops) so instead of freezing up and getting nervous maybe we can train our zen abilities during a huge region intersection while watching a fabulous line move from 0% to 100%? I think this aint gonna be an easy one, but you're the man to decide...
How about I just display some random LolCatz pictures if the solution takes longer than 3 seconds? You'd have to be online for this to work though.

you could bundle a fine selection of lolcatz gifs with the next release! or better even, some hi5 crappy diamond and glitter graphics - though this is a personal preference, i admit.

I couldn't find these entries as the structure of the file grasshopper_kernel.xm meanwhile has changed.

Where can I now change the background color?

Also, when grouping objects the group color currently is set to some sort of purple. I wanna change that, too.

Thanks

I am wondering how to switch between opened definition files. It used to be in the window menu. Now I have to shut down one file to see another one. If it can not be done in these version, I hope it will come back later:)
Right-most main menu item should show a list of all definition files including previews.

Any way I could request a list of open GH files to be populated back in the ´WINDOW´menu (it was lost at some point)? The new glossy drop down while nice is too far over on a dual monitor setup...
