Community Question: Universities Charge Students for Time in Fab Lab's?

I have been noticing a, shall we say, unpleasant, trend at some universities.  They are charging students for time on university machines.  Now, I can understand students paying for their own materials, but time?

So I ask the GH community, does/did your university program charge you for time on a machine in your respective university's fabrication lab?
