Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hi everyone!

This might have been asked before, but could someone please guide me as to the best way to go ahead in learning scripting for grasshopper.

I have gone through both the scripting in grasshopper primer and the primer for scripting. Both have given me only a very basic understanding & hence I have a long way to go before I can write my own scripts.

This is the reason why I am asking this question here - what would be my next step? Exploring the sample examples from discussions or learning in-depth VB.NET?

Help please!

[PS: Since I have no programming background, I was very happy when I saw VB in both rhino script primer and the one for grasshopper. But I was utterly disappointed when I came to know both are different! :P]

Many Thanks

The best way to learn programming in my opinion is to start with a problem that you must solve and that you understand well in terms of logic and methodology. Then you can start writing very small pieces of code that perform exactly one step. If you get stuck you can ask for an example (the chances of someone writing you an example are tightly correlated with how succinctly you can formulate it).

If you know exactly what your code is supposed to do, then it will be much easier to play with it and to understand how changes in code result in changes in output.

Interesting blog post: http://www.codinghorror.com/blog/2007/02/why-cant-programmers-progr...

It also seems that research has shown that a large percentage of people cannot be taught to program at all. Someone (I seem to have lost the link now) even made a set of simple questions that would determine with frightening accuracy which sci-comp student would succeed and which would bomb.

must...stop.....procrastinating
That was quick Vicente! You passed the test :D Hurray ;P
It took you 16 minutes.

That makes you a poor senior programmer (whatever that is).

:)

P.S. Yeah for %!

EDIT:

I just read the rest of the post. Someone posted FizzBuzz code in the comments.

coding + smartness :D
You're hired!
