Adaptive Facade

I am trying to make a facade in which I have rectangle that is swept along a vertical line, and as the rectangle moves up the line the x variable is dependent on the increasing y value of the rail that sweep is traveling. I am terrible with functions so if some one has any idea how to do this that would be great.
