Event Description

Modelling and simulation capabilities of software packages used within the film and game industries are having a powerful and disruptive influence on the development and representation of form within the design field.  These highly innovative tools and techniques offer opportunities for designers to continually push the limits of these technologies and fully explore the boundaries of their creativity.  The potentials of these methodologies allow for an extreme amount of diversity and complexity in form generation, capable of providing new opportunities for developing ideas and thought processes for novel design.

Through a project based approach, participants will be introduced to Autodesk’s Maya software to utilize its advanced modelling capabilities and new design logics to explore form finding in innovative ways, surpassing the norms and the boundaries of conventionally linear design tools.  They will explore how to employ a design process using digital tools to create an innovative tower massing design, that is refined and precise, and represent these ideas through rendering techniques that powerfully present concept proposals.

Through the modelling skills acquired in this course, participants will be able to apply their knowledge to a number of different types of projects, at multiple scales, and be capable of exploring the evocative and imaginative limits of design.
