Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hi all,

I would like to make a curve version of a blob. Currently there are plugin to do it for plane surface. I am wondering if it is possible to do it in grasshopper.

the first images is what the plugin can do.

the second image is a model which i have subdivided the surfaces and would like to make a blob version of each piece.

Please advice.

Thank you all,

Sky

Do you have the latest GH release? That's not happening in my computer.

David in his definition (which I stole here) filtered out the surfaces that are not easy to simplify to 4 boundary curves to create untrimmed surfaces, that's why there are many missing.

Removing unwanted vertices is indeed a pain. I had various degrees of success using "kinky curve" component for this but you have to make sure that the start/end point of the curve is not one of the vertices you are trying to remove.

Yes, latest version. No matter, I had some issues during installation. Who knows...

Dear All,

I know this comes a bit late but took me quite a while to figure out how this works and also with issues of kangaroo and meshcomponents.

Thank you all for the answers and this is exactly what i am looking for. Grasshopper does do wonders. I have adjusted the model to have strictly 4 sides and it works to some extend though with some hiccups but can be ignored.

Thank you again. Looking forwards to a next grasshopper project.

Cheers.

You could also use Weaverbird's mesh subdivision components to blobbify the surfaces. It will be faster than Kangaroo and look similar to the image you posted.

Can you post the Rhino file with the surfaces?

I'm no roo-master so this may not be the best way to achieve this.

I had to tweak the spring rest-length to 0.6 times the original length to get a good balance between bulging and stretching. I do not know whether 0.6 will work for all shapes and sizes or whether you need to retweak.

hi David,

I did successfully download the above definition and tried to achieve it as a wall system. However I failed it. If you don't mind, can you please have a look at the definition that how can I apply the geo on to the the surface please!

Best regards,

Jocelyn.
