Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hi,

I jjust downloaded rhino 5 beta (evaluation version) to try the kinect feature of firefly extension.

Basic firefly component are working great but I can't find the kinect skeleton one.

I followed the installaton guide step by step.

At first I dowloaded the lastest kinect SDK which is 1.0 version. Installations instructions are speaking about 1.0 beta 2 sdk. So I used this one in place of the lastest .

But Kinect component is still not in the toolbar.

Installation files don't seem to be locked in the "properties" panel.

If someone is in front of the same issue, thanks for helping....

Hello again.

Skeleton component finally works after many uninstalling and reinstalling. I don't really know why.

Anyways, joints tracking is quite slow.(nearly half a second lag) Is this due to any kind of embeded smoothing in the component?

thanks!

Hello,

Im having the same troubles you were having but after many uninstalling and reinstalling I still cant see the kinect components.

Do you remember how you managed to do this?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

M

Hi tib,

The skeleton tracking definitely should not be that slow.  Do you have a timer connected to the skeleton tracking component?  If so, is your timer interval set to something really fast (maybe 5ms).  In my test (on my laptop) I can easily get 20-25fps, so I'm unclear as to why that might be happening.  The smoothing is a bit of an issue, and I've been working on a new solution for the Kinect to work with the newest SDK.  I have fixed many of the issues (and added a few new components too... including video and depth streaming).  I still have to do a few more tests before I can release this, but hopefully these will be available soon.

Cheers,

Andy

Hello Andy.

(let me first thank you for this tool which is really great)

I tried with a 5 ms timer instead of 1 ms but lag is still here. For example, If I gently shake a hand, its corresponding joint is on the right on my screen while my real hand is already gone to the left.

Do you have a 0 latency answer on your laptop? It may come from my pc.

Thanks again Andy.

Hi Andy,

Thanks for the great work on firefly.

Im not sure if I should have posted the last comment here...

Do you know why the kinect components are not coming up on the firefly toolbars?

Thanks,

M

Which version of Rhino are you running?  The Kinect component will only work in Rhino 5.0, but should work in both 32-bit and 64-bit versions.

Im running Rhino 5, 32 bit.

Ive made more attempts at reinstalling but cant get it to work.  As tib_ctrl mentioned, no locks on properties.

Maybe if you send me a file containing one of the components it will recognize them?  Is that not possible?

Thanks for the quick response!

Hi,

So Ive tried every combination of installation folders to place the files into but no kinect components.  If you stumble onto another case like this one Id really appreciate the help.

Thanks for the great work,

Best,

M

Both "kinect color stream" and "depth stream" are just black and not showing anything, the fps on the corner varies between 6 and 1. I'm using 32 bit rhino 5 and kinect components seem to be installed right. also kinect SDK example skeletal viewer works smoothly at 25-30 fps.

I also tried opening your example file, but nothing shows up cuz my video streams are not working.

any suggestions?

"kinect color video stream" and "kinect depth video stream" showing nothing, hand tracking example not working, too. I have connected a timer already.

using Rhino 5, tried 32 and 64 bit, what is wrong?

I have the same problem, nothing shows in video or depth stream window, but in fact they are working, there's just something's wrong with the preview. I connected the depth stream to a "kinect depth to point" component and it shows the points in rhino viewport.

There is a bug with the skeletal tracking component and it doesn't automatically turn on the kinect. Before using skeletal tracking component you should drop in a kinect depth or video stream component just to turn the kinect on.(you can see the red light on infrared camera), then it stays on even if you delete the depth component.

It worked for me

I am trying to use a xbox kinect. It seems, windows kinect use its own driver and doesn't work with firefly???
