Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hi all,

Has anyone tried to make/set springs properties in Karamba?

I have a system that is using springs and I need to know how big/strong these springs has to be.

It will be great if there is any example. I have not find anything by far.

Thank you!

Springs will probably be included in the next Karamba release, it's already in the testing phase..!

cheers

A spring that is equivalent to a truss of length 'L', cross section area 'A' and Young's Modulus 'E' has the spring constant c=E*A/L.

Thanks Clemens! I will give that a try.

Is there any estimation on when the next release will be?

January 2012.

I was hoping for the new release to come out before the new year. But anyway, I cant wait for that new release and thank you for the plug-in!

Karamba 0.9.083 now lets you define springs.

Thanks, I have just installed the new version. However, it gave me this error when I pull out the license component:

"Solution exception: the type initializer for 'fem.karambaPINVOKE' threw an exception."

Is this because I am using Grasshopper 8.065?

Seb

did you uninstall the old version of Karamba?

Uninstall Karamba (Settings/Software...). Search the Rhino directory for fthe files 'karamba.dll', 'karamba.gha' and remove them if they still exist somewhere. Then reinstall.

Karamba 0.9.083 works on GH 8.065, I've tested that.

Best, C.

I tried that and still not working.

I tried plan a and plan b like the manual says. And here is plan c!

Could you please give your exact configuration (OS, Rhino version, Service release)? Karamba 0.9.083 does not work with Rhino5.

no way!!!!! ok I think that was the problem. I am using Rhino 5. :(

In theory karamba 0.9.083 should also function under Rhino5. However I haven't worked out the right directory to place 'karamba.dll' in. The problem is, that the C# user-interface-program-part 'karamba.gha' does not find 'karamba.dll' where all the calculations are done (although they are in the same directory and are able to work together under Rhino 4).

I hope to solve that issue in the next release.

Best regards, Clemens
