Intro to Caddisfly: An Add-on for Grasshopper

Caddisfly is an Add-on for Grasshopper (algorithmic modeling Plug-in for Rhino). It’s a series of tools for Complex Structures and Free Forms Detail Designing. The main idea has been based upon having the process from Conceptual Design, Analyze to Construction on Free Form Structures Automatically. It is being developed by Python and C# both for a better flexibility up and running for different components. Caddisfly defines some phases of progress related to special structural systems like Space Frames, Single Layers, Grid Shells.

Thank you once again for the detailed reply Mahdi!
And the attached publication!
I am looking forward to seeing more of the node types implemented into Caddisfly!
The project definitively has a bright future!!!

Thanks to you djordje,
No the node has came from a Node list presented by Mero in the first place many years ago. there are 12 different types which we used one of the greatest both in assembly and structure behavior.

please find the whole series here in the pic and the explanations by this amazing article. we are planning for different structure system and different node in next versions.

Thank you for the reply Mahdi!
The node that Caddisfly is modelling is a patented node from Alusys?

Hey Djordje,

Thanks for your comment, Yeah finally just the exclusive version is out now and we are using the tool as one of our services to contractors.

The projects are listed as examples as you mentioned just in case of the field which caddisfly can make it easy to  bring design and analysis to fabrication process. There is also another reason we pointed out those projects and that's all about what these huge firms done and how their works actually made us enthusiast in this challenge.

Hi Mahdi,

Great to see that Caddisfly has started flying finally!!!
I also like the intro video, it looks quite interesting with all the screentransitions.

Just one question: Ardaena worked on all four projects that are listed in the video (Ayuntamiento, Zlote Tarasy, Akasya Mall, Fiera di Milano)? Or did you use those four projects as an examples to show how Ardaena's Caddisfly nodes could have been applied to those four projects?
