Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hi All,

I'm fairly new to grasshopper. Can someone please guide me to how I can export the geometry of the model created through grasshopper to a .dwg or .dxf file?

I will be using the exported geometry in Autodesk Robot, therefore I would like to know if there is a method which is directly linked to grasshopper where I can change the geometry in grasshopper and export straightaway to .dwg or .dxf.

Thanks

If you'd like to generate more attributes and data in Grasshopper than can be conveyed through dwg or dxf, then there is the geometry gym plugin (that I develop) to link grasshopper and robot.

It is available from http://www.geometrygym.com/downloads and is free for academic use.

If you want to use dwg or dxf, I'd suggest the Lunchbox plugin might help. http://www.food4rhino.com/project/lunchbox?ufh

Appreciate your reply Jon. I'll give that a go.

Thanks

Hi Jon,

Thanks again for your response. I've downloaded the 'geometry gym IFC' plugin for the grasshopper however I'm still not sure which components to use in order to link the model to ROBOT. Could you please demonstrate in the gh file attached.

The model attached is a parametric model of foldable plate, however, what I'm trying to do is use the geometry of the model at different fold angle state and use it in ROBOT to analyse and design a static structure. For example, the foldable plate is deployed at angle of 30 degrees so I want to freeze the geometry at 30 degree fold angle and take this into ROBOT and then repeat procedure for 40, 50, 60 degrees.

Another question which I have is that when we do link the grasshopper to ROBOT, how does ROBOT identify the scale of the model. How is the imported model measured in ROBOT e.g. mm, m, inches etc.

Thanks

You can bake the Grasshopper model, of course, then in Rhino, 'Save as' a .dxf or .dwg.
