algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hi all!

Would someone be so kind as to post more videos regarding how to set up Human UI properly or at least take a look at my file and help me identity the error? I have been trying to construct UI for my icosahedron model and I came across two videos made by Andrew Heumann about how to set up slide bars and 3D view with certain geometries but now I'm completely stuck with my own icosahedron model. I am pretty sure that something is wrong and I can't get it to work correctly. I don't have problems with creating slides but I am totally clueless when it comes to making 3D view on my control window (set 3D view). It's hard for me to explain it verbally so could any one please take a look at my file and tell me what I am doing wrong? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!!

Paul

P.S. My main problem is I am clueless about how I should set up the 3D view on my control window, such as where I should connect the mesh 'to' or 'from'.

Can someone please be so kind to give me a hand here? Any feedback would GREATLY appreciated!

Convert your breps to mesh and then add them in as the mesh input. See attached

Thank you so much for the correction Andrew! I got it and understood the problem. I have an additional question regarding color though. How should we control the color on the 3D view window?

There is a color input on both the create 3D view and the set 3D view component.

Yes I know, but I mean how do we change the geometry's color by changing the color in the color bar on the control window? I think there is something that I have not connected correctly.

Connect a value listener to your human ui color picker object, and feed the value into the "set 3D view" color input.

Got it THX Andrew!!!!

Oh and by the way Andrew, I wanted to ask you what/which component did you use for making the video (check out the attachment)? The quality of the video is low so it's really hard to see the the stuff shown in the video. Do we have that on Food4Rhino?

I used Camtasia. That video is out of date so it's not on food4rhino but the example files for download show much the same content.

Gotcha. One last question: when I tried to test on another geometry, a small warning popped up from "Add Elements". What does it mean? Is it not safe or can it be ignored? The UI itself works fine though. I'm just a little paranoid about the warning sign.

The warning means what it says: don't drive any "create" components with the output from other create components. If you want some dynamic behavior - an element that responds to a change in other element - you must modify an existing element using one of the "set" components from the "UI output" tab.

Hi Andrew

Discovered a new problem for my parametric bench. I don't know what problem I have but I suppose it is again something about the mesh plug. The problem is after I got done setting up the UI the bar on the window won't even move only except the buttom part (my thickness of extruded surfaces). This is getting much more complicated as I have complicated algorithmic work. Could you please identify the error for me pr is it impossible to make one based on this work? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
