algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hey guys,

I was wondering whether Galapagos could do an integer programming for optimization or not.

I am designing a truss, and integer type of variables such that if it said "1", a member A will appear, and if it said "2", a member B will appear in the truss configuration and so on....

If yes, could this then be combined with the non-linear programming optimization so that it becomes more like mixed optimization with continuous and discrete type of variables taking as design variables?

Thanks in advance for any inputs.

Theoretically yes, Galapagos only deals with integers in its genome classes. Floating point inputs are mapped to integer ranges as well. The problem with having a 'gene' which can only take on a few (very disparate) states is that the fitness function becomes very discontinuous. The solvers in GH have trouble dealing with discontinuous functions.
