Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

We work with such high level programming languages (such as C# or even Grasshopper itself) that we forget that underneath all that are ones and zeros being summed and all kinds of other things using tiny transistors and exotic materials to compute your Voronoi diagram or my personal favourite - the clean tree component (because the main input is at the bottom and not the top).

So I made a computer in grasshopper to peel back the layers. This is called a 4-bit adder made from logic gates and essentially sums numbers in binary. It may not be the most efficient machine, but it works. You can try it here:

In theory at least (although not actually possible), we could use many of these to make a processor to compute grasshopper definitions on and then write another set of logic gates to make a processor to run grasshopper on, etc...

As a famous old woman once didn't say, it's grasshoppers all the way down.

That's just terrific. You've probably seen what the MineCrafters get up to, but in case you're looking for inspiration/being bored ;)
