ich bin grad ziemlich unter Zeitdruck aber ich muss die Komponente bald für die Arbeit erweitern.

Gives you various option of geometries formfinding. Galapagos open a new field for open an closed spaces.
I will play around and looking for other solutions.

What mean the expression for the number components?

im trying to understand galapagos, with the help of this example.
i asssume with

-Abs(num)

in the number component im telling galapagos to check out best combination of slider inputs to achieve min. difference between A and B. (please have a look at the image)


is there any manual for grasshopper explaining the graphs, buttons or gives an overview ?

You are correct about the expression: -Abs(num). I searched for the minimum difference between the object and the bbox because i was testing for the proof of concept. The object here is a box rotated three different time in the three different axes. If the minimum volume difference approaches zero, I know the algorithm is functional.

Appreciate you sharing your definition. This is the first time i've used Galapagos, and this helps my understanding greatly.

I do a lot of 3D printing, so this definition is a great starting point for ideas. - Just imagine if this definition could perform a nesting operation, or orientate a build so as to give the lowest possible Z height!

That's probably a long way off, but your definition is great!

I'm with you on nesting. If only we could perform the same search for 100s of objects, 2d or 3d! I'd be interested in seeing how you've adapted the definition to suit your need.

If i can make any useful adaptation i'll be sure to post it back up here...

At the moment though i'm using it as a vehicle to understand the limitations of Galapagos. There's definitely potential here, but the first thing would be that ability to handle multiple geometries.

I've been using Galapagos, to orient the build (ABS FDM 3D printing), for a while (months). Different criteria (fitness): lowest height, lowest shadow, maximize extrusion-along-Z behavior, reduce the amount of support material, smooth the slope, &c. How else would you use it?

I you want to orient hundreds of 3d part for 2d drawing this is the way to go.

Hi Michael, i have some issues with your component, it seems like it to old. It was worked just fine, but when I had changed geometry, it gives me this:
1. Solution exception:Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

Geometries are Identical, so I can't understand what the problem is. My definition is alredy too big and complicated to use Galapagos. Can you help Me pleas?
