Lio replied to Lio's discussion Again Catenary in the group Kangaroo
"In this little example I made a comparison between a real catenary (measured) and the simulation in Kangaroo, and the result is very impressive. I would like to make some comparisons like this also with minimal surfaces and I would like to use soap…"

Lio replied to Lio's discussion Again Catenary in the group Kangaroo
"Hi Daniel, thanks very much for your reply. Changing also the timestep all it works perfectly, and the accuracy of 0.001 is more then enough! Last question, do you know how (given two points) to select among the infinity of catenaries…"

Daniel Piker replied to Lio's discussion Again Catenary in the group Kangaroo
"Regarding the rigid segments - if you make the stiffness high enough, you can get the lines to keep their length to whatever degree of precision you need. The attached example shows Kangaroo hanging a chain while keeping the length of the segments…"

"Hi Victor, thanks for your reply but I can't figure out how to order the particles output so that the interpolation curve can work. Can you show me your suggestion? Again I can't have rigid segment even if I put very high value of…"

Victor Leung replied to Lio's discussion Again Catenary in the group Kangaroo
"First Question quick answer,   If you plug the subdivided points into the Geometry Input in correct order, you will get the geometry output which can be connected in correct sequence."

Again Catenary

Hi all,in this simple definition I started from a line, subdivided into X parts and thenI used it to generate a catenary. How can I generate an interpolation curve between the particle output?Another question (and most important): is there a way to have a spring without extensions, so to be rigid? For example if I start from a polyline with 10 equal segments, after the "relaxation" I find different values lenght; in this way my chain is not unflexible as for Hooke's law. Thanks so muchLioSee More

Lio replied to Wiktor Kidziak's discussion how to create chain net like this? in the group Kangaroo
"Daniel it's very interesting your approach! Now I will try to apply this definition to the relaxation one to obtain circular meshes with quadrilateral topology. Let's start! Bye and thanks so much Lio"

Lio replied to Wiktor Kidziak's discussion how to create chain net like this? in the group Kangaroo
"Thanks for the reply, but I don't want to start from a mesh with irregular triangles and quads (for example transforming a NURBS to a mesh). My aim is to start from a quadrialteral mesh (with rectangualar border) and then "relax" also…"

"Daniel what you do is very interesting! We can learn a lot from each discussion. About your model, is there a way to reorganize the anchor points (the naked mesh edges) from a rectangular distribution to a circular one? ThanksLio"

Daniel Piker replied to Lio's discussion Minimal Surface in the group Kangaroo
"Unifying and rebuilding mesh normals in Rhino should get rid of the display continuity issues. The stiffness value does not need to be near zero to approximate soap film geometry, and I think provided it is not either extremely low or high, varying…"

Minimal Surface

Hi all,I’m trying to investigate some properties of minimal surfaces with Kangaroo. I’ve used a mesh relaxation method which uses springs in mesh edges (attached). First question, has the stiffness value to be close to 0 to better simulate soap films? Anyway, for different values of stiffness I obtain a different minimal surface, is it right? In the attached image there are two different relaxed meshes one with circular border (red) and the other with quad borders (blue). I see that they have…See More
