Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hi,

I'm having trouble finding the Grasshopper operator which allows me to define cable section properties for GSA. It's probably there, but I can't find it... Could someone show me which operator i need for this?

Thanks!

Hi Marco, Are you absolutely certain you want to use cable elements?

I've worked on quite a few tensions structures with GSA and always used "ties" to represent cables (it's a bar element type available in the beam attributes).  Cable elements have a "slip" property that emulates pulleys.  I don't think I have added cable property generation yet, but I can do so if you confirm that's what you need.

Cheers,

Jon

Hi Jon,

thanks for the quick response!

Yes, that is what I need. I'm currently modeling a tensegrity structure including some continuous cables (passing through multiple nodes), so tie elements will not give an accurate interpretation of their behavior. At the moment I have to manually input the cable properties in GSA, but if you could add a cable property generation operator to your plug-inn, that would be awesome!

By the way, I'm currently cleaning up and updating the grasshopper model of my tensegrity bridge. When I'm finished, I intend to upload it onto the forum (with some info about the design) as inspiration for other users. It's quite a complex model, but I think it will be very interesting for those willing to take a good look at it.

Thanks again,

Marco

Dear Jon,

I'm also searching for cable properties in your ggGSA plugin for assigning cable properties in GSA one by one is quite some work. I think there is already this function since this post was five years ago. I found the component to create cables but failed to find the property generator.

Could you please help me where it is?

Thank you.

Jing

Found it. Just in case someone is also looking for it:
