Hi all, someone knows how the compute such an effect with lines in grasshopper?

Looks a bit like ideal flow past a cylinder, which you can model with the complex number components

Hi Daniel, thanks.
But i have the newest version of grasshopper i cant open it. can you make an image or print screen pls
If I remember correctly from fluid dynamics (probably not) laminar flow can be defined mathematically as Daniel says...

Laminar flow

Stream function

Also, streamlines are perpendicular to equipotential lines so here's a link to an equipotential definition.

Yup, that's what the definition I posted above does.
I don't know why it wouldn't open for you - Joao - do you have gh 0.7.0054 ?

I'm glad to be able to show something where the complex modulus / arg functions are really useful !

It's not always so easy to find the perpendicular streamlines corresponding to a set of equipotentials - in that 'Isopotential Map' definition you link to for example you'd have to use something like gradient descent to find them step by step. The awesome thing about doing it with complex numbers is that you skip that altogether and finding streamlines becomes just as easy as taking contours.
Thanks guys.
Pretty cool example. Thanks for sharing!

(I'm only just now taking a look)
